Parent Resources

    Expectations for Parents:

    • Please help to get your swimmer to the pool on time, ready to swim for meets and practices.
      • See Swim Meet 101 tab above for information on how to prepare for swim meets.
      • Swim practices are designed to help the swimmers improve and get them ready for the swim meets. Swimmers should arrive 10 minutes early for practice and be ready to get in the water at the assigned practice time. When the assigned practice time is over, swimmers should exit the pool area so the next group of swimmers can begin practice.
        • How to be ready/what to bring to swim practices:
          • Swimsuit on
          • Swim cap (optional)/goggles on
          • Full water bottle
          • Towel

    Swim Meet RSVPs and Volunteering:

  1. Parents will RSVP for all swim meets by Monday for that week's swim meet. See https://highgrovehurricanes.swimtopia.com/swim_mee... to sign up and https://highgrovehurricanes.swimtopia.com/signup-i... for instructions on how to sign up.
  2. Each parent should volunteer to help at at least two swim meets over the course of the season. We need help at all swim meets but need extra help for home meets. See https://highgrovehurricanes.swimtopia.com/voluntee... to gain an understanding of the various volunteer roles and to sign up.

Please put the focus on your child's progress - not winning.

While we love our team, swimming is an INDIVIDUAL sport, measured by time improvements. Rather than placing the importance on "winning" events or meets, please help to put the focus on your child's individual improvement. Your swimmer cannot control who they swim against, and all that their place (1st, 2nd, 6th, etc...) indicates is how they swam as compared to others. For example, a swimmer can swim their best time against strong swimmers and get last place, or swim one of their slowest times and get first against weaker competition. A swimmer competes with themselves with the goal of getting faster.

We will be keeping track of the swimmer's times in practice and Swimtopia keeps track of your swimmer's times at meets. A half second time drop is a big deal and should be celebrated, no matter what place a swimmer gets.

To see your swimmer's best times from meets, go to https://highgrovehurricanes.swimtopia.com/personal... (sign in necessary) and click your swimmer's name. These will only be visible if your swimmer has swam for Highgrove in the past or after the first meet. Your swimmer can also ask the lane timers for their unofficial time following their race.
